John is recognised as one of the foremost experts on the UK and Irish banking and financial sectors. Alongside LTA, John leads Seapoint Insights, a financial services research consultancy providing corporates and institutions innovative and timely research on the banking and financial sector.
John is the author of ‘Financials Unshackled’ – a newsletter on Substack that launched in September 2024, which publishes independent authentic insights on banking & specialty finance sectoral themes / developments.

John was, most recently, an institutional equity & fixed income analyst at Goodbody specialising in UK & Irish Banks research – achieving exceptional institutional equity client recognition context as well as regularly presenting to bank Boards / Executive Committees and at conferences. He is a Qualified Chartered Accountant (FCA) with deep senior-level experience throughout his career to date – in Capital Markets (2015-24), Government (2012-15), PLC Group Strategy (2011-12), and Corporate Finance (2003-11). John has degrees from University College Cork (BSc) and The London School of Economics (MSc) – and he was recently awarded a Certificate in FinTech from Harvard University.
